A few years ago I began working with Thomas’s program in order to better manage a seemingly overwhelming array of personal commitments. "I don't have the time" is a phrase I often hear. Someone says there is not enough time to lose weight,  start a business and transition out of that soul-crushing career. Someone else will say he doesn't have time to work on his spiritual life. When I hear this and ask, "Exactly how much time do you need? "No one ever seems to have an answer. The average person has no idea how much time they're spending on their lives' different daily and weekly activities. If tracked and planned, this is one of many sets of data that could change the course of any life.

Vision.
Another problem is that most people do not live with a sense of vision. They typically don't envision the "mountaintop" of their life. Every day is a struggle (Think "The Office" sitcom). In short, they don't "begin with an exciting end in mind." They don't live with passionate purpose. Some people cannot do this right now because of the dark state of our world. If they could begin with the end in mind, they would think through how they spend their time making the most of each day, month and year.

Goals.
Every year, thousands of people set the goal of losing weight and fail. They quit by February 1st. Why? Maybe they didn't assign the aim to any burning vision, like being fit enough to play with their children without being too tired to keep up with them. To have goals that we stick to, they must be a small part of a larger vision we have burning in our hearts.
